david carroll top dog
David was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and earned a B.S. in Graphic Design from the University of Cincinnati (College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning). As part of the co-op program tandem to his education, he worked for Peterson Blyth Cato in New York City, Jacques Auger Design in Miami, and Digital Equipment Corporation in Boston.
After graduating, David accepted a position at Siebert Design in Cincinnati, and worked with such clients as Beckett Papers, Compuserve, Formica, HOW Magazine, Lens Crafters, and NCR. Three years later, he moved to Atlanta to work for CNN, IBM, Ross Systems, and Turner Broadcasting Systems at TW Design. Following Atlanta, David continued building his freelance business (Supon Design Group and J. Gibson & Co.) in Washington, DC. The American Hospital Association, Champion Sportswear, Coca-Cola, Discovery Channel, National Broadcast Association, National Women’s Law Center, The Smithsonian Institution, and The United States Postal Service were among the clients he served in DC.
In March of 1995, David moved to San Diego and began flying dog design. Ten years later he moved to Austin, continuing his own work — and eventually working full-time as Art Director for Private Label Creative Services at Whole Foods Market. Now, after two years as Senior Design Manager of Brand Packaging for Williams-Sonoma in San Francisco, David and flying dog design are happy to be back home in Austin — unleashing big ideas and bold graphics every day.
With varied experience and a diverse client list, flying dog design caters to a wide range of disciplines (architectural, arts/humanities, association, athletic/sports, banking, boutique/cosmetics, corporate, educational, government, grocery/retail, institution, legal, media/music/entertainment, medical/research, real estate and software) with a strong emphasis on identity, packaging, print and illustration.
zoe bean pawtner
Zoe joined flying dog design in January, 2006. During their initial meeting, she sniffed out David’s needs and assured him that she could help him lick the competition. When he realized that they shared the same creative vision (although Zoe is color blind), David scooped her up and hired her on the spot! Months later, after extensive training, Zoe was jumping through hoops to get the job done. “She works like a dog,” says David. On a personal note, Zoe sees herself as a loyal people person, enjoys long walks and loves chewing the fat.
